What is the feed in tariff?
The feed in tariff is a payment scheme set up by the government but paid by your energy supplier. It varies with different technologies, but for Photo Voltaic ststem, less than 4kwp, roof mounted and fitted onto an existing property you will be paid 41.3p per kilowatt hour generated at the current rate. (Rates will change in 2012)
What is a Photo Voltaic System?
Photo Voltaics are at the cutting edge of technology, they are crystalline silicon solar panels that are linked together within a module, modules in turn can be linked together to form an array mounted on your property. The P.V. array generates DC electricity by converting power from the sun. This DC energy is then converted to AC power by means of an inverter and fed into your existing electricty distribution system. The power is metered and, depending whether your system has been fitted by an MCS accredited Company, you are paid by your supplier for the power generated from your system.

Savings
Example: A property fitted with a 2kwp PV system with minimal shading on a South facing roof and a straight forward installation, may generate around 1716kwh of power a year, bringing an annual benefit of approx £931. The tariff of 41.3p per kilowatt hour is guaranteed for 25 years and the 25 year benefit from the feed in tariff would be approx £23,000. A good investment for your money whilst helping save CO2 at the same time.
