Wansbeck Awards – The Centre of the Solar System

Celebrations out of this world are the order of the day for a Solar Energy business that has scooped the Incubation Award at the Wansbeck Business Awards.

The rising cost of energy prices and the constant debate about diminishing fuel supplies has prompted the Northumberland business to invest in leading edge technology using solar panels to heat domestic and commercial hot water supplies.

Husband and wife team David and Aileen Pollard launched the Solar Energy Centre in Ashington just over a year ago from humble beginnings. Now, however, the couple have established one of the fastest growing energy businesses in the North East.

The technology involves placing solar panels on the roofs of buildings and works by capturing the heat from the sun's glare and then transferring the heat to a hot water tank used to warm the water.

Aileen was thrilled that the business had been recognised for the work they had done in the past year. “We are absolutely delighted with the award,” she said. “We always go the extra mile for our customers and to receive an award is the icing on the cake.”

Undoubtedly, solar water heating can make a difference for domestic consumers, but it is business and commercial premises that can really benefit from installing solar roof panels.

“We are now finding that more and more businesses are installing solar panels into their properties, “said Aileen.” Apart from being a more economical way to run the building's hot water system, the benefits to the environment are really important and contribute dramatically towards reducing a business's carbon footprint.”
